4-Day Mara River Migration Special Safari (Luxury)

Description

4-Day Mara River Migration Special Safari : A 4-day “Migration Special” safari from the Western Serengeti to the Northern Serengeti (Mara River) allows you to witness one of the most remarkable wildlife spectacles on the planet—the Great Migration. Why start with a long drive from Arusha when the Serengeti is just two hours from Mwanza? It’s the smarter, quicker, and more relaxed way to begin your safari adventure—more time with the animals, less time on the road!

Day 1 : Mwanza to Mara River

This safari has been curated to offer you the best of East Africa’s wildlife, while also ensuring your comfort, safety, and a relaxed pace that allows you to fully enjoy each national park experience. Your journey begins in Mwanza, a city located on the shores of Lake Victoria. After meeting your guide, you will embark on a scenic drive to the Serengeti National Park.

Within 2 hours, you will be at the western Ndabaka Entrance of the Serengeti. You will start spotting wildlife as soon as you enter! This area is renowned for the Grumeti River, the easiest way to spot some of the biggest Nile Crocodiles in the Serengeti. You will be provided with packed lunch boxes that you can enjoy in the wild under a tree. You will then start heading towards the Northern Serengeti amidst the huge herds of wildebeest and Zebras.

As the sun sets over the Serengeti, you’ll drive to your accommodation for a hearty dinner and a peaceful night’s rest, surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.

Day 2 : Mara River

You’ll wake up to the wild in the Northern Serengeti, already immersed in the heart of the Mara River region. You’ll set off on an afternoon game drive to get your first look at the river and the vast herds gathering on its banks. Keep your eyes peeled for predators lurking in the grass and crocodiles waiting patiently in the water. You’ll spend the day tracking herd movements, observing predators on the prowl, and soaking in the raw beauty of the landscape. You’ll enjoy a packed picnic lunch in the bush and continue your search into the afternoon.

You’ll return to camp in the evening for dinner and a well-earned rest under the stars—with the sounds of the river still echoing nearby.

Day 3 Mara River

To increase your chances of viewing wildlife, you’ll start your day with an early morning game drive. You’ll spend the day exploring the northern Serengeti’s Mara River and continue to observe the Great Migration in anticipation of sighting a crossing. The migration is a game of patience and waiting. You will spend more time near the river reading the movements of the herds. You can choose to enjoy a packed lunch or take a break and enjoy a warm lunch at your stay.

In the evening, you will return to your accommodation for another night in the heart of the wildlife.

Paid Optional: Balloon Safari (Early morning only)
This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity provides a magical and bird’s-eye view of the Mara River and zebra and wildebeest-covered landscapes, making it an essential addition to your migration safari itinerary.

Day 4 : Mara River to Mwanza

This is the last day of the safari. You will have a warm breakfast in the morning and proceed for a half-day game drive back towards the western Corridor of Serengeti. You can enjoy your last packed lunch within the wildlife before you proceed to Mwanza by late afternoon.

This schedule of the day can be adjusted if you will be catching a flight on the same day from Mwanza.

Serengeti Safari FAQ's

How do I get to Serengeti National Park ?

Guests may travel to the Serengeti by vehicle (transfer, self drive or guided safari) or by flight on a light aircraft to one of the Serengeti airstrips in the national park. Your journey usually starts from the town of Arusha -which is considered to be the gateway to the Serengeti- or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

What are the best time to visit National Park ?

The Serengeti offers outstanding wildlife viewing all year round. However, most travellers prefer to include the chance to witness the Great Migration. Winter is the best time to see the herd in Southern Serengeti, while the Western Corridor and Northern Serengeti are the best places to spend the summer and autumn months. However, the park becomes rather busy in peak periods and accommodation prices come at a premium. Most Serengeti lodges offer substantially lower rates (often referred to as ‘green season’ rates) in April and May. Moreover, outside peak periods the Serengeti is far less crowded, whilst wildlife viewing options are still superb. So... the best time to travel really depends on your personal preferences. That being said: most travellers (and so many people can't be wrong) pick the dry season (late June - October) for a Serengeti safari. This is the time that the Great Migration is at its absolute prime and your chances of witnessing a river crossing are at their best.

Which animals will I see in National Park ?

In wildnerness areas, such as the Serengeti, specific animal sightings can never be guaranteed as wildlife roams freely in a massive area. Consequently, we are unable to tell you in advance whether you will be seeing leopards, cheetahs, lions, or other wildlife species. However, as you are well aware, Serengeti National Park is world-renowned for its incredible wildlife numbers, big cats, and the biggest wildlife event in the world: the Great Migration. Serengeti National Park boasts all Big Five species (elephant, buffalo, rhino, lion and leopard) and your chances of seeing these species are good. The Serengeti ecosystem is home to more species and individuals than any other wildlife area in Africa.

What type of Accommodation is available in the Serengeti National Park ?

Serengeti National Park is home to a myriad of accommodation options in the form of safari camps & lodges. These range from permanent semi-tented bush camps to ultra luxurious design properties to mobile tented camps and anything in between.

Are there special offers available in the Serengeti ?

Yes, some Serengeti lodges offer reduced (honeymoon) rates or special offers.
